New Zealand’s national indigenous media organisation
After broadcasting for over 18 years Māori Television was ready to change. Māori Television was now more than just a TV platform and the name change to Whakaata Māori signalled this. The equity and heritage of the brand was to be retained, but also refreshed and brought to life across various touch points from broadcast to digital and more.
Natalie Sharp Head of Campaign Marketing - Whakaata Māori
Creative company, Good Viking led the charge with Form & Function being brought in as the brand design expert. We crafted the well loved koru symbol to be more usable across all platforms and made it central to the brand. On-air, on-line, corporate & news were connected and all part of the wider master brand.
The new brand signals a new attitude and brings a feeling of mana to Whakaata Māori. The creation of the Masterbrand system is the first time all of the Whakaata Māori brands have been linked properly through design. That is a huge win – to have a cohesive and recognisable stable of brands that we can continue to build loyalty to.
